On January 9, 2020, one of two male suspects was arrested by police in an apartment complex in Seoul, South Korea. The other fled abroad. Hwang Mo, a 30-year-old YouTuber who was attacked, was on the air about a cryptocurrency investment like Bitcoin.
Another suspect, a man in his fifties, fled to Australia shortly after the crime. The police are investigating the possibility that the crime against Mr. Hwang was planned in advance, as the overseas departure was made on the day of the crime.
On December 12, the Seoul Seongdong Police Station announced that one man who had attacked Hwang with a weapon in an apartment elevator in Seongdong-gu was arrested at Suwon station in Korea at about 5 pm yesterday. Arrested men in their 40s were charged with robbery and murder.
The police believe that those who thought they had lost money after watching Hwang's broadcast committed a retaliatory crime. A police official said, "We plan to find out how the suspect was arrested first. We will request international cooperation through the interpol for suspects who have fled overseas."
