For the first time in Korea, a transgender soldier who had undergone a sex-translation operation was born. However, this soldier's examination is scheduled this month. It will be decided next month.

Sergeant A, who is currently being treated at a military hospital, hopes to continue serving as a female tank driver.

According to the Military Human Rights Center, Sergeant A has served as a tank driver since he was assigned to the cavalry and tank crew skills. After realizing his identity as a transgender, he received psychological counseling and hormonal therapy for a long time. In December last year, he had a sex change operation in Thailand with the approval of his unit.

Lim Tae-hoon, General of the Military Rights Center, said, “The unit cooperated well, including approving the overseas vacation of Sergeant A.”

The Military Human Rights Center held a press conference at the Military Human Rights Center in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
