At Photokina, the famous German photo show, Contax presents a new concept of camera like never before.
This variant of the rangefinder camera, which is both a range finder and an AF, appears with the following phrase.
“Dramatic Reality”
When it was actually released in 1995, it caused a new breeze, and despite its high price, it won the Camera of the Year Grand Prize.
Launch price: BODY: 150,150¥, 45mm f2 KIT: 189,000¥ The launch price is huge, but now it is very cheap.
It can be purchased for $400 with a 5mm kit. (As of 2009)
Since it is an interchangeable lens, G lenses have various angles of view, but regardless of the price, their performance is dazzlingly good.
Based on T* coating, it is released under the name of Hologon for ultra wide angle, Biogon for wide angle, Planar for standard, and Sonnar for telephoto.
When the glens is attached, the body automatically changes the finder magnification, and when focusing with the shutter button halfway, the finder correction is automatically performed.
Parallax is automatically adjusted. (From 21 mm or less, an external finder must be attached.)
It is AF, but since it is a range finder, there is no mirror, there is no Black OUT, and there is no mirror shock, so there is no shake even at a low shutter speed.
Even the night view and shooting are okay.
Currently, the G-series is the only one that is the cheapest way to use the T* lens system.
The price has dropped so much, and its performance beyond imagination is enough to fascinate everyone.
Personally, I think the G1+28mm is the best combination.
P.S Recently, as adapters that enable the use of the G series in micro Four Thirds cameras have emerged, the performance of the G lens is re-emerging.
